Last week HMS CALLIOPE hosted an engagement event to recognise and thank their Reservists’ employers, friends and families for their continued support, without which the unit could not work as well as it does. Events like this are also key to explaining the work that HMS CALLIOPE does in support of Defence.

It was also an opportunity to talk about the Royal Navy and to provide an update on its relevance and it being key to supporting the economic growth and well-being of the nation. The north east of England has always had a strong relationship with the Royal Navy and we very much value this!

Local employers and stakeholders also attended, many as part of the North East Regional Defence & Security Cluster (NERDSC).  SIXTEEN organisations, including Amazon UK, Gateshead Council, South Tyneside Council, Gateshead College, Newcastle Thunder Rugby League & Nexus took time out from their busy schedules to take part.  Almost 60 people attended and it was a great chance for HMS CALLIOPE to build relationships and links with the community that they serve.

The event was supported by the Royal Navy Presentation Team, who delivered an engaging brief that showcased what “your” Royal Navy is doing at home and across the world.

Cdr David King, Commanding Officer, spoke about the transferable skills gained during reserve service. These are valuable and can be of great benefit to our Reservists’ employers.

Cdre Tom Knowles VR ADC, Naval Regional Commander, delivered an address and also participated in the Q&A session.

The North of England RFCA, who kindly funded the event with a grant also facilitated a signing of the Armed Forces Covenant by Mr Dan Wilson, on behalf of Global Procurement Group.

“Once again… on behalf of team HMS CALLIOPE, sincere thanks to all our friends, families, employers and supporters. We are grateful to you for your continued support!”
