Yesterday, 8 September, the North of England Reserve Forces' and Cadets' Association (NE RFCA) had the privilege of hosting representatives from our region’s Blue Light Services at the Royal Salute in York, marking the anniversary of His Majesty The King’s accession to the throne.
Our guests were hosted by Colonel (Retd) Gordon Straughan OBE TD VR, Chair of NE RFCA, alongside Andy Maylett, Defence Relationship Manager for the North of England, in the presence of His Majesty's Lord Lieutenant for North Yorkshire, Mrs Joanna Ropner.
Against the historic backdrop of York, guests witnessed the 21-gun Royal Salute fired by 4th Regiment Royal Artillery — an impressive demonstration of military tradition, precision and professionalism.
These occasions are also about relationships. Bringing together Defence and our Blue Light Services strengthens mutual understanding, builds valuable connections and reinforces the shared values of service, teamwork and resilience that run through both communities.
A fantastic occasion and a privilege to share it with those who serve and support communities across the North of England.
