Festival of Remembrance Service at Durham Cathedral

“A credit to the County and the cadet movements they represent”,  Lt Col Barney Barnbrook, Regional Director North East and Yorkshire Army Benevolent Fund, said of the Lord Lieutenant’s  Cadets who took part in the Festival of Remembrance Service at Durham Cathedral on Saturday, 11 November 2023.

“I just wanted to take the opportunity to comment on how absolutely fantastic your Lord-Lieutenant Cadets were – they were first-class and a credit to you, the County, and the cadet movements that they represented. The pieces that they read out were certainly not easy, particularly in front of such a large audience and on such an important occasion. Members of the congregation were extremely touched when ‘Dog Soldier’ was read out by Matthew Paine and Matthew Shevlin. The context provided by Jorga Pinnington and Aliza Hassan in ‘The Faithful Durhams' (an exceptionally difficult piece) was invaluable, and Michael Lamb and Emily Burton provided an accurate and confident, reading of the Exhortation and Kohima Epitaph. The Cadets also engaged widely with the VIP guests during the reception but more than that, I found them to be confident, engaging, and an absolute pleasure to work with.”
