The Duchess of Northumberland presented her Lord Lieutenant’s Certificates for Meritorious Service to Reservists and Cadet Force Adult Volunteers from all three Services on Tuesday 5 April 2022. 

In congratulating recipients on their awards the Duchess said she was, "greatly impressed by the outstanding work carried out over many years by Volunteers who had achieved great things and given unconditionally of their spare time”.  The Duchess also presented Cadet Proficiency Awards to members of the Army Cadet Force and appointed her Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets for 2022.    She was delighted that families and friends had come to support those receiving Certificates and the other awards, and said their "support and encouragement were the keys to the continuing success of the Reserve and Cadet Forces”.  

The Duchess thanked Lt Col David Smyth, Commanding Officer, 5th Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, particularly Zulu Company team for hosting the event, and WO1 Peter Elcott and the members of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers Band for the enjoyable musical programme provided.  The Duchess also thanked her outgoing Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets for their commitment during the previous year despite the difficulties created by the Covid pandemic, and said they had been splendid ambassadors for the Cadet movement.   In concluding her address she welcomed her newly appointed Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets and hoped they would have an enjoyable year ahead.
