Regional Cadet Triathlon Series 2017
On two Sundays in April and May 2017, NE RFCA ran two Go Tri events for cadets and adults. Go Tri is an event sponsored by British Triathlon to introduce people to the sport of Triathlon and other multisport.
These events are very short distances and are designed to give the complete novice an achievable target for a triathlon event. The two events were: Swim 100m; Bike 3-5km; and Run 2.5km.
Cadets from all over the region came to the venues to give triathlon a go.
The first event, Go Tri (South), was held at Barnard Castle School on Sunday 30 April 2017. Over 20 athletes took part with many recording very credible times for the three events.
The second event was held on Sunday 21 May 17 at Ashington Leisure Centre with over 25 Cadets and 4 adults attempting the course.
Every cadet and adult said they has a fantastic time, and that Triathlon was more challenging than they originally thought, especially the transition and the run immediately after the bike ride, with all experiencing the sensation what multisport athletes call “brick” legs!
A big thank you to the Cadets and adults who also turned out to help run each event. Without them the events would not have been able to take place.
The next event and culmination of this year’s Cadet Triathlon Series is the GO Tri Super Sprint on the afternoon of 17 June 2017. Longer distances and the trimmings of an Olympic event; chip timing and bike racking. Hope to see as many cadet as we can at what promises to be a very exciting event in Darlington.
