HMS CALLIOPE Association WRNS 100th Anniversary Dinner
On Saturday 25th November 2017, the HMS CALLIOPE Association hosted a dinner at HMS CALLIOPE to celebrate 100 years of the Women’s Royal Naval Service.
There were 47 Wrens attending the evening, all of whom had served on board HMS CALLIOPE at some time from 1953 to 2017. There was a wide range of ages, skills and ranks.
WRO1 Ann Blake had travelled from Dubai to attend the dinner.
The evening started with a welcome drink in the Crofton Mess and many long-awaited catch ups with old shipmates.
CPO June Allison co-ordinated all to their places for the group photograph on the blue drill deck.
Dinner was served in the Wardroom and it was lovely to see everybody reminiscing and chatting throughout the meal. Cdr Liz Bryson chaired the dinner and her end of dinner speech encapsulated all that everyone loved about being part of the Royal Navy.
Everyone retired to the Crofton Mess for after dinner drinks and more socialising.
At the beginning of the evening not everyone knew each other. By the end of the evening telephone numbers and e-mail addresses had been swapped with promises of meeting up in 2018.
