607 Squadron RAuxAF Wins Kemp Dirk Trophy
The Inspector of the Royal Auxiliary Air Force, Group Captain Gavin Hellard VR RAuxAF, visited RAF Leeming to present the ‘Kemp Dirk’ Trophy to this year’s winners 607 (County of Durham) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force (RAuxAF).
The trophy, initiated by Group Captain Bob Kemp CBE QVRM AE ADC FRIN RAUxAR, is awarded annually to the RAuxAF unit which has achieved the best recruiting and retention results during the previous year. The Squadron has successfully attracted and retained 52 new recruits during the specified time and has a current strength of 101 against an establishment of 117.
Squadron personnel were commended by Group Captain Hellard at a presentation ceremony: “For a new squadron to win this trophy is a truly remarkable achievement, retaining personnel after the initial signing on is the hardest part, you should all be immensely proud of yourselves.”
The Squadron has recruited personnel for various trades including, Logistics Specialists as MT Drivers, Chefs, Suppliers, Intelligence and RAF Police Reservists.
Wing Commander Andrew Dobson, Officer Commanding 607 (County of Durham) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force said: “It’s been a huge squadron effort; the recruitment team have done particularly well, considering the Units short period of operation since reformation in 2015.”
